On saturday the 14th of April 12 of our Band members attended a Brass Workshop organised by John Packer Ltd of Taunton,it was at Queens College in Taunton,it was hosted by David Thornton,the internationaly renowned Euphonium player of Brighouse and Rastrick fame,helping him was Richard Poole a very talented Soprano Cornet player from famous Fodens Band,the day started at ten with a massed band rehersal with over 90 players !!! we played a selection of pieces that I for one had never seen before so it was quite a challenge!! ,we then split with the upper band was taken by Richard into another practice room and the lower section was taken by David we were given a very interesting lesson in various aspects of brass banding,including tips on buzzing,breathing,ect,we then rehersed two solo pieces, David played Variations on Carnival of Venice which was breath taking,then Richard played a piece by a Rafael Mendez came which again was fantastic......... the day finished with a small concert by the whole ensemble, we all had a fantastic day and are looking forward to next year........
